Roddick’s Barn Wedding | A Colourful Italian-Inspired Celebration in Delta, BC

There are weddings that are beautiful, and then there are weddings where every single detail feels so thoughtfully considered that you can’t help but stop and look at everything. This was absolutely one of those weddings.

Set against the rustic countryside backdrop of Roddick’s Barn in Delta, BC, this colourful summer wedding was transformed into a whimsical, playful celebration inspired by Italy. With vibrant pops of colour, lush florals, thoughtfully curated tablescapes, an incredible multi-course Italian dinner, and countless handmade details, the entire day felt like a little piece of Italy had somehow found its way to a rustic barn in Delta.

And honestly? It was absolutely fantastic.

The bride had envisioned and thoughtfully planned every element of the day, bringing together an incredible team of vendors to turn her ideas into reality. From the ceremony and reception design to the custom-built details and colourful styling, nothing felt accidental. Every element had a purpose, and every detail added another layer to the overall experience. The result was a wedding that felt completely personal to the couple & one of the funnest days (& best dance parties) of the wedding season.

A Rustic Barn Transformed

One of the things that makes Roddick’s Barn such a beautiful wedding venue is the way its rustic setting provides the perfect blank canvas for a couple’s vision. The natural wood, open countryside surroundings, and relaxed barn atmosphere could easily lend themselves to a classic rustic wedding, but this couple took the space in an entirely different direction.

Pinks, oranges, vibrant florals, colourful accents, and playful details transformed the barn into something that felt whimsical and almost Mediterranean. The styling brought warmth and personality to every corner, creating an atmosphere that was elegant without ever feeling overly formal. It was colourful. It was joyful. And it felt like them.

The tables were especially beautiful, with carefully considered details that made the multi-course Italian dinner feel like an experience rather than simply a meal. The combination of colourful florals, layered table settings, and warm rustic surroundings created exactly the kind of Italian-inspired atmosphere the couple had envisioned. And then there was the party.

From Italian Dinner to Full-On Dance Party

Once dinner was finished, the reception transformed into a completely different kind of celebration.

There was a candy bar, a lounge. There was a custom-built disco chandelier made from tu-tus, hand-crafted & envisioned by the bride herself. Yes, you read that correctly. A tu-tu disco chandelier. And trust me, it was every bit as fantastic as it sounds.

The dance floor was packed, the energy was high, and the carefully planned details continued to make their way into every part of the evening. It was one of those receptions where you could tell the couple had thought not only about how the wedding would look, but about how they wanted their guests to feel. And judging by the dance floor, they absolutely nailed it.

When the Weather Had Other Plans

Of course, no wedding day in BC would be complete without a little weather drama. In the middle of the ceremony, a HUGE loud booming roll of thunder announced what was about to become an absolute downpour. And this wasn’t a quick little summer shower. The rain continued well into cocktail hour.

But instead of letting the weather derail the day, these two simply rolled with it. The celebration continued, guests gathered together, and everyone made the most of the unexpected change in plans. And eventually? They got their rainbow.

After the storm passed, a beautiful rainbow appeared across the sky – a pretty spectacular ending to a weather event that could have easily felt like a disaster earlier in the day. Honestly, there’s something rather perfect about that. A little rain didn’t take anything away from their wedding. If anything, it became another part of the story (& it’s also good luck ;)).

A Love Story That Started on the Ball Field

Long before the colourful tablescapes, Italian dinner, and tu-tu disco chandelier, these two met through mutual friends at a slow-pitch tournament. Their relationship eventually led to a road trip through Yellowstone, where they got engaged surrounded by the incredible landscapes of the national park.

If you’ve been following their story through their engagement session, you may also recognize one very important member of their family. Winston. Their adorable Golden Retriever was the star of their engagement photos, and while he wasn’t able to steal the entire spotlight on the wedding day, he remains a very important part of their story.

From slow-pitch fields to Yellowstone adventures, a beloved golden retriever, and finally a colourful Italian-inspired wedding at Roddick’s Barn, their story has been filled with plenty of personality from the beginning. It makes perfect sense that their wedding would be exactly the same.

Why I Love Roddick’s Barn

Roddick’s Barn is such a wonderful example of how much personality you can bring into a rustic wedding venue.

The surrounding countryside provides a beautiful, relaxed backdrop, while the barn itself offers the warmth and character of a classic rustic setting. But what I particularly love is how easily the space can be transformed depending on the couple’s vision.

For this wedding, the rustic setting became the foundation for something colourful, playful, romantic, and completely unexpected. And that is one of my favourite things about photographing weddings: seeing how two people take a space and make it entirely their own.

Their wedding didn’t try to hide the rustic character of Roddick’s Barn. They embraced it, and then layered something completely different on top and made it even more amazing. They made it THEIRS. The result & day was unforgettable.
