Nestled in the quiet countryside of Agassiz, surrounded by rolling farmland, towering evergreens, grazing bison, and the incredible backdrop of Mount Cheam, Fraser River Lodge is one of those wedding venues that instantly makes you slow down and appreciate just how beautiful British Columbia really is.
It’s hands down one of my favourite wedding venues in the eastern Fraser Valley. In fact, when I was planning my own wedding, Fraser River Lodge was an incredibly close runner-up before we ultimately chose another venue. Every time I photograph here, I’m reminded why it was so high on my list.
There is simply nowhere else quite like it.
For Nina and Harrison, it couldn’t have been a more fitting place to begin their next chapter together.
Their story began over a decade ago at Capilano University, where they met in the film program back in 2014. What started as a friendship slowly grew over the years, and by their fourth year of school, friendship turned into something more. It’s always so special hearing about relationships that were built on genuine friendship first – you can truly see that comfort and trust reflected in the way they interact with one another.
Years later, the two travelled to Mexico for their first big adventure together. Before dinner one evening, they decided to take a walk along the beach. Waiting for them was a romantic private dinner overlooking the ocean. As the sun dipped below the horizon, Harrison asked Nina to marry him, beginning the next chapter of a love story that eventually led them here to Fraser River Lodge.
Surrounded by family, friends, and one very special four-legged guest.
One of my favourite moments from the entire day happened before the ceremony even began.
Instead of waiting until the aisle, Nina and Harrison chose to share a private first look followed by personal vows tucked away from their guests. Those quiet moments together always become some of the most meaningful parts of a wedding day. Without an audience or timeline pressures, they were able to slow down, soak everything in, and simply enjoy being together before the celebrations officially began.
And of course, no first look was complete without including their beloved German Shepherd, Max, who made the sweetest appearance for a few family portraits before the ceremony.
These are exactly the kinds of moments that make a wedding gallery feel uniquely yours.
One of the reasons I love photographing at Fraser River Lodge is the incredible variety the property offers without ever needing to leave the venue. The lodge itself feels warm and inviting, while the surrounding fields, towering trees, and peaceful country setting create endless opportunities for natural portraits.
Then there are the views.
Mount Cheam rises dramatically behind the property, creating one of the most iconic mountain backdrops anywhere in the Fraser Valley. No matter the season, it provides an unforgettable setting that feels distinctly British Columbian. Add in the quiet atmosphere, the nearby Fraser River, and even the resident bison grazing peacefully in the fields, and the entire property feels like a private mountain retreat tucked away from the rest of the world.
It’s peaceful.
It’s timeless.
And it photographs beautifully.
Nina and Harrison embraced that natural setting perfectly with a wedding palette inspired by the surrounding landscape. Forest greens paired beautifully with rich blue suits, creating a timeless colour combination that complemented the venue instead of competing with it. The greenery-filled florals, elegant décor, and rustic wood elements all came together to create a celebration that felt refined while still embracing the beauty of the outdoors.
As the evening settled over the valley, guests celebrated beneath the warm glow of the lodge while Mount Cheam quietly watched over the day from the distance. It was relaxed, heartfelt, and full of genuine joy – exactly the kind of wedding Fraser River Lodge seems to do so effortlessly.
Looking through this gallery, I hope you’ll take a moment to appreciate not only the incredible scenery, but also the quiet moments between them. The excitement before seeing each other for the first time. The emotion in their private vows. The happy chaos of including Max in their portraits. The laughter shared with family and friends.
Those are the moments that become the memories.
