There are some places in British Columbia that never stop taking your breath away, and Golden Ears Provincial Park is one of them.
As a Fraser Valley engagement photographer, this is easily one of my most requested locations for couples sessions, and for very good reason. In fact, last year I photographed five engagement sessions in a row here, and somehow, it still never gets old.
Every time I arrive at Golden Ears, I find myself looking around thinking the exact same thing: we are so lucky to call BC home.
With towering mountains, old-growth forests, glacier-fed waters, and endless opportunities for adventure, Golden Ears offers one of the most beautiful backdrops for engagement photos in the Lower Mainland. Whether you’re dreaming of classic mountain views, a quiet forest walk, or something more adventurous, this park truly has something for everyone.
For this late summer engagement session, we spent the evening exploring one of my favourite areas of the park – the beach at Alouette Lake.
The walk down to the shoreline is absolutely worth it. As you step onto the beach, you’re greeted with that iconic BC landscape so many couples dream of: peaceful blue water, rugged mountain peaks stretching into the distance, and that unmistakable feeling of being surrounded by nature.
The golden evening light, the quiet shoreline, and the incredible scenery created the perfect setting for a relaxed and romantic summer engagement session.
One of my favourite things about Golden Ears Provincial Park is the variety it offers. You can create an entire gallery here without ever feeling like you’re photographing in the same place twice.
For couples who love a little adventure, the park offers so many different landscapes to explore:
- Moss-covered forest trails that feel like something out of a fairytale
- The stunning turquoise waters and rocky features of Gold Creek, fed by the glaciers of the surrounding mountains
- Peaceful riverside locations surrounded by lush Pacific Northwest greenery
- The iconic Alouette Lake beach with those unforgettable mountain valley views
It truly feels like multiple locations wrapped into one incredible destination.
As a photographer, I love locations that allow couples to simply be themselves. Golden Ears gives us space to slow down, explore, laugh, wander, and create images that feel natural and effortless. Some of my favourite moments happen between the “planned” photos—the quiet conversations while walking, the laughter when the trail gets a little adventurous, and those little moments where couples forget the camera is even there.
Most importantly, my goal is always to create a space where every couple feels welcomed, celebrated, and completely comfortable being themselves. Love stories are love stories, and every couple deserves to have their relationship documented in a way that feels authentic and true to them.
