Not me blogging this sweet family’s portrait session before I blog their WEDDING day 😂🤷🏼‍♀️. Honestly, I had every intention of promptly sharing their intimate spring elopement on the blog with you all – it’s even next in the blogging queue. However, once I shot this session I knew it would have to take priority.

So what’s the deal with this session? Let’s take a step back to a spring Saturday back in April. It was wedding day for J & S, and they had decided on an intimate elopement-style wedding day to tie the knot. Surrounding by their tribe of close friends & their sweet little family they are building, they made their day their own, celebrating their love & union together. If I’m being honest, I fell in love with these two back at their initial consult last fall, and we’ve continued to find common ground with each other since.

Cut back to their wedding day, the instant I got these two in front of my camera, I knew I was IN LOVE. They are magnetic together, their connection undeniable, and okay they may be just a smidge photogenic. The only caveat was it was raining… POURING, unfaltering, soaking rain. While I do say rain on your wedding day is good luck and we made the most of it for their portraits (coming soon on The Blog 😘), I couldn’t escape the feeling that after everything these two had overcome together, they deserved beautiful stunning portraits filled with the same glowing warmth & love their relationship has. We quickly made plans to meet again in the summer and give these two what they deserve – a sweet portrait session, with no rain & no rush. And that is exactly what we got.

When I told you these guys got the most beautiful sunny golden hour/sunset this time around, I am not lying. I walked away from their session even more in love with them all, and promptly stayed up till the early morning hours editing away. I can’t wait to share these images with you!

Amelia & Lawrence were married two weeks ago on Saturday on a beautiful August day. I’ve been excited for these two to celebrate their marriage since our first coffee consult last Spring and got even more anxious for it at their engagement session at the start of summer. After hearing all about their plans for their reception to treat their guests with, I was left on pins & needles waiting for their wedding. These two are so special together. They have such a tender, gentle, & kind-hearted love and relationship with each other. There is a mutual respect that they share for each other and their faith and I love watching their relationship blossom in front of the camera.

Their day started in Abbotsford and New West respectively. Hannah was documenting Lawrence and the guys getting ready and I was in Abbotsford with Amelia & her lovely ladies. Fun fact – did you know Hannah & I shoot almost all of our weddings with each other? We love getting to work together and it’s so amazing knowing you are working with someone who has your back, cares about you and your business and is there for you. Back to the wedding though, after getting ready we all headed out to the ceremony location at Living Waters Church in Fort Langley, BC. What a beautiful church and the interior is so beautifully lit – while photographers go nuts over natural light, I couldn’t have asked for a better indoor ceremony location! After a touching service (which was a little more eventful than we all thought ;)) and family photos wrapped up, we all headed out for bridal portraits in and around Fort Langley & Derby Reach (that barn never gets old, and man did these guys make it look good!).

Afterwards, we all headed over to Fort Langley Golf Course for their reception. I cannot say enough about the amazing event staff at this venue. I was at the golf course for another wedding the week before and both times they blew us away with their kindness and hospitality. Now I’ve been telling you guys about the plans these two had for their reception and it did NOT disappoint. From sitar & tabla players, a caricaturist, traditional Russian singers & dancers, belly dancer, and a bharatanatyam dancer which had to be my favourite performance of the whole night. Through the simplistic but precise careful movements along with the emotion the dancer expressed both through facial expressions and her motions left me feeling moved and completely caught up in the story she was telling through her dance. It was a night filled with dance and activity, and naturally it ended (for us, though the party carried on after we left) with Amelia & Lawrence’s first dance as well. I loved watching them steal away a few quiet moments during the dance and it was the perfect way to end the day.

A big congratulations again to you two, Lawrence & Amelia, you make a lovely couple and Hannah & I both wish you nothing but the best. Thank you for having Meg Kristina Photography be a part of capturing your day.

I had originally planned for today’s Travel Tuesday blog to be of my visit to San Francisco, California. It was my favourite stop along the way of the West Coast road trip (30 hours on the road – call us crazy but it was worth it!) and for that reason alone I decided it was best to save it for another day. You can look forward to that one up on the blog in the coming weeks.
Until then, I wanted to share my brief time at Haystack Rock – probably my most anticipated stop on the road. I’ve had a couple opportunities in the past to visit Oregon but for a sad variety of reasons, life & situations got in the way. It made this short visit that much more exciting – to finally get to be here was all that I could’ve asked for!
It was a hazy morning spent in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Having arrived to darkness in the middle of the night just hours prior, I excitedly awoke eager to explore, and swung the door open to be greeted by a thick fog engulfing not only the beach but the entire picturesque town surrounding it. It was to be expected I suppose.. I was, after all, in the heart of the West Coast experiencing the foggy weather that it is known best for. If anything, it only enhanced the beauty of the coast.
I practically ran down to the beach that morning, with only a couple of short hours of exploring time before it was time to be back on the road. Even through the thick fog, I could see the outline of Haystack Rock looming in the distance. It really is a sight to be seen. Who here has been to Oregon?! What was your favourite place to stop and explore there?? Tell me in the comments below!

because it’s never too late for a “Best of..” blog! We may be almost 2 months (can you believe it?!) into 2017 already but in my mind it’s always better late than never.

2016 was a whirlwind of a year filled to the brim with big life changes, both expected and unexpected, but all for the best (you can expect a new blog post soon detailing one of those exciting changes!). After taking a few months away to regroup & spend some quality time with friends + family, I’m excited to be getting back on track again! You’ll notice over the coming weeks and months a different tone being set here as I transition Meg Kristina Photography into a more personalized experience. I want to get to know you, & I want you to get to know me! Let’s explore this crazy journey called life together, and what a better way to start than to look back on the highlights that this last year brought!

This is a collection of some of my favourite moments from the 2016 season (mostly weddings but you’ll see the odd portrait sneaking in there as well!)

I hope you enjoy looking at these images as much as I loved being a part of capturing them.

I still have select dates remaining for 2017 weddings but am currently booking for ALL 2018 Wedding Dates. Contact me at www.megkristina.com or message me at info@megkristina.com to reserve your date today.
