I absolutely loved photographing this proposal at Glow Langley this past December. It was the perfect holiday evening, with a crisp coolness in the air, as I arrived at the popular light garden exhibit that has taken Vancouver by storm this last winter. I was met by a huge crowd of Sunny & Justine’s loved one – friends, family, cousins, and their three children holding a sign up for Justine to see. It was bustling with activity and excitement already inside as we waited for Sunny to lead Justine around the corner to where everyone waited for her. As they approached, the crowd parted ways down leading to the centre of the large red ornament where her children and their banner awaited. Justine was already taken back, trying to grasp what exactly was happening as she read the words on the sign that would change her life.. “Mommy, will you marry Daddy?”

I can’t say enough about how wonderful of an experience it was photographing the S Family in their Surrey home back in December. They were kind, warm and inviting in welcoming me into their home to capture some really beautiful memories for them. It was so much fun interacting with the kids, exploring (& photographing but I’ll save that for another blog post) this stunning home, and getting to know this family. I was privileged enough to be invited into their prayer room to photograph it and them saying their prayers. I was blessed enough growing up to travel abroad & it has given me a great appreciation & respect for other cultures and religions. A major part of why I do what I do is because I fell in love with capturing the beauty around the world – of both places & it’s people. This family was so kind to me & I am so happy I got to meet them. The kids were too much fun, and some of the adults even got into a fight!… A purse fight haha 😉 But seriously, you have to check out the photos of an incredible walk in closet (.. and maybe a purse fight shot).
Needless to say, I had a great time getting to know this extended family. Here’s a small selection of some of my favourites!

I met little Ace Cortez in the studio with his mama, Carmen, earlier in December. I could not get over how absolutely precious Ace is. He was bubbly, full of ear-to-ear smiles & giggles, & I mean can we just talk about how adorable his outfit is, bowtie & all?! I love getting to meet new people and having the privilege of photographing amazing families in the studio. Since moving to Langley and getting the business re-established out here I have had the honour of meeting so many incredible families and this was no different. When I hear the words studio photography, can’t help but cringe. And I’m a photographer, but like any other child of the 80s and 90s, I have a core memory of sitting for Sears photo sessions. Don’t laugh, I know you know what I mean.
Which is why, I’ve made it a mission to up-level the idea of studio photography. For example, I had the pleasure of photographing this BEAUTIFUL family in my studio in Langley a couple of weeks ago and could not resist sharing their stunning portrait session. Sandy and I have known each other for quite a few months now, and I couldn’t help but ask if they’d be interested in a family session because… I mean… Just look at how gorgeous they are! They are adorable together, charming, and beautiful & it was so wonderful to see the love of their family come to life in front of my camera in the studio.

So back to that old-school idea of studio photography, I want to make sure you know that your studio session is anything but boring.
Working with me for your family photos is not about following a script or a predetermined seating arrangement. We’re actually following your lead!
The beautiful thing about family photos is that you get to shine as you are. Just look at the pictures below! There is nothing preset about our session except the decor. How you interact with it, and the photos we take are about you.
