James & Emily are the sweetest couple. We first met up quite a few months back and I absolutely loved hearing their story about how they met & fell in love. These two help run the Lazy Bear Lodge in Churchill, Manitoba and are also working on settling their home in British Columbia. I can only imagine falling in love in a winter wonderland, surrounded by polar bears by day & the Northern Lights by night and that’s just what happened with these two.
Whenever I plan out engagement sessions with my couples, I always ask them if there’s anywhere around that holds a particular significance for them – whether it’s the place of their first date, where they first met, or where they got engaged – I love photographing their portraits in a place that’s important to them and who they are together. For James & Emily, that place was Cypress Mountain, west of Vancouver. It was the place, for them, that they truly fell in love and were able to express that with each other. That’s something you’ll never forget.
The day of their session, I arrived at Cypress to less than ideal conditions. In and around Vancouver, you never know what kind of weather you’ll get in the winter for engagement photos! The best part of all is when you can embrace it and have fun with it, and that’s just what we did! Between the mix of rain, darkness, slush & heavy snow, we snuck in an epic snowball fight, maybe trespassed a little (by accident – oops!), & more.
I had such a great time exploring with these two, and they were absolute troopers! Their time up north in Manitoba well prepared them for the rough conditions of their engagement session. I cannot wait to celebrate their marriage this May with the sun shining it’s warmth & happiness down on them!
